Solar Program Enrollment For Michigan Energy Co-Ops
Great Lakes Energy and Wolverine Power (MECA)
Challenge
Michigan co-ops needed to drive cost-offsetting solar sign-ups to fund new solar farms and reward energy customers.
Strategy
We launched an exit-intent popup with a follow-up email series to capture interest and convert traffic into solar signups.
Outcome
Over 200 new signups in three months, generating $120K in value with only $5K in costs (2,300% ROI).
PROBLEM
Background: Through our ongoing work with Great Lakes Energy, Fungi was introduced to MECA (Michigan Electric Cooperative Association), which launched a new solar initiative across eight participating co-ops. The goal was to encourage members to finance solar panels and receive energy credits, helping co-ops recover installation costs while promoting sustainability.
The Challenge: With no direct sales team and limited marketing budgets, MECA and its partners needed a high-leverage campaign to educate and convert consumer members quickly.
SOLUTION
Solution (Expanded)Fungi designed and implemented a digital strategy focused on lead capture and automated education. Key elements included:
-
An exit-intent popup deployed across participating co-op websites
-
A 5-part email nurture sequence promoting solar benefits and lifestyle content
-
Consistent branding and messaging for statewide program recognition
-
Low-cost remarketing ads to re-engage prior visitors
RESULTS
-
200+ solar program signups in the first 3 months
-
$120,000 in estimated value from new panel enrollments
-
<$5,000 total cost (development + ad spend)
-
2,300% return on investment
-
Scalable campaign framework now available to other program partners
